The Gresham Wine Bar is a renovation of a standalone poured-in-place concrete building, originally a milk barn, situated off Main Street in Gresham, Oregon. The project creatively repurposes the historic structure, preserving two of its original walls while enclosing the ends with glass to create an open and light-filled atmosphere.
The design incorporates a steel-brace frame that runs through the entire project, providing structural support and allowing for two covered patio areas on the east and west sides. These open yet sheltered spaces will offer cozy spots for patrons to enjoy the ambiance, complete with a smaller fire pit on one patio and a larger communal area on the other.
Spearheaded by a local couple, the owners’ goal is to revitalize the historic structure and enliven part of a downtown city block. In addition to the wine bar, the owners will sell Oregon wine wholesale and host events featuring local wineries. The project is a response to the growing desire for unique and enjoyable venues in Gresham, positioning it as a lively destination near restaurants and shops.
One of the significant challenges of the project is its location adjacent to a parking lot that lacks aesthetic appeal. To combat this, landscaping will be prioritized to provide a natural buffer. This initiative aligns with the owner's commitment to beauty in architecture, ensuring that the wine bar not only serves the community but also enhances the overall environment.
