25th & Vaughn

The 25th & Vaughn project is a seven-story, Mass Timber building located in NW Portland providing 72 new affordable studio apartments. Featuring large windows, wood ceilings, and an abundance of natural light, the building offers market-rate-style amenities such as a community room, gym, wellness space, and outdoor courtyard. Affordable ground-floor retail spaces will focus on supporting BIPOC and underrepresented businesses, and help to foster a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly environment.

Developed by Carbon Group and designed by Guna Collaborative, this project maximizes an underused 8,326-square-foot site in NW Portland, creating affordable housing within close distance to stores, transit, schools, and parks. Its design reflects efficient use of materials, including metal panels and stucco, creating a unique and durable facade. The L-shaped building features open-air hallways overlooking a lush, green courtyard—a shared outdoor space to complement the smaller unit sizes.

25th & Vaughn represents a thoughtful approach to affordable housing, blending quality design with a focus on community and walkability. The project’s adherence to zoning regulations allows for maximum density while maintaining a human-scaled, neighborhood-friendly design. The project offers a comfortable, well-appointed living experience without sacrificing affordability, making it a valuable addition to Portland’s housing landscape.
